Mr. George Allen Desmond, age 82, of West Blocton, AL entered into rest on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 peacefully at his home. He is survived by two sons, Wade Desmond (Debbie) of Trussville, AL, Lee Desmond (Kim) of Clanton, AL; one daughter, Denise West (Mike) of West Blocton, AL; five grandchildren, Candice Gourdouras, Gabrielle Morrow, Molly Desmond, Laura Desmond, Hunter Desmond; four great-grandchildren, Meredith Morrow, Annalouise Gourdouras, Cece Morrow, Deacon Gourdouras; close friends, Mr. LaWayne Gilbert, Mr. John Pratt, Mr. Scott Lightsey, Mrs. Linda Lightsey and Mr. Timothy DeHart. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lupee F. Desmond; parents, George O. and Marguerite Desmond; one son, Kyle Desmond; one brother, Phillip W. Desmond and one sister, Judy Desmond Stewart.
George Allen Desmond was born August 6, 1938 in Birmingham, AL. He was raised in River Bend Community near West Blocton, AL. He graduated from Bibb County High school and joined the Alabama Army National Guard, serving 23 years total in service to his country.
He married the love of his life, Lupee Ceil Faucette Desmond, July 3rd, 1960 and grew their family by four beautiful children over the next few years. He began his political career as the Bibb County Tax Assessor – Collector and later served as Bibb County Probate Judge and ultimately retiring from county service. George Allen later went on to serve the USDA as a Cotton Gin Inspector. He travelled around the Southeast and came home on Friday evenings to enjoy family dinners and share stories of the open road. After leaving this work, George Allen embraced his passion for land development and worked in the Bibb County area to help build and grow the community.
When George Allen wasn’t on the cotton trail or on his tractor, he was being a supportive Granddaddy and attending his grandchildren’s extracurricular activities. He loved nothing more than to support them and their schools.
George Allen was an active member of the Masonic Lodge #474 in West Blocton, AL. He was a member and deacon of Schultz Creek Baptist Church in the River Bend Community. He loved his friends and neighbors and often shared his blueberry bounty with those in the community.
George Allen was loved by his relatives and friends and will be missed but remembered for the rest of their lives. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Alabama Children’s Home.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 16, 2021 at Shultz Creek Baptist Church from 1PM - 2PM with the Funeral Service Starting at 2PM. Burial will follow at adjoining cemetery with Rev. Stan Huguley presiding.
