Steven Charles Slusher Petrich passed away Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021, at the age of 59. He was born in Chehalis, Washington, on March 5, 1962, to Linda and Steven Slusher. He was the oldest of three children and was raised in Rochester and Tenino, Washington. He was apart of the Tenino High School
class of 1980.
As a young boy, Steve spent a lot of time with his grandparents Charlie and Helen Kuntz, who had a working farm on the Grand Mound prairie. He helped feed and milk the cows, and gather eggs from the many chicken houses, but his favorite thing to do was to drive. He was always running to get into the driver’s seat of the old farm truck or get to the Farmall tractor first so he could drive. Later, it was
racing to the family car to get to drive down the gravel road. His mom Linda was an avid horsewoman and tried to get Steve to become a horse lover as well. He was open to the idea of riding until he fell off
his Shetland pony and broke his arm at age 5. He never got on a horse again and from that day on it was all about anything with an engine that could go fast. He loved motorcycles and fast cars, as many can attest to when they were either riding on the back of his motorcycle or in the seat next to him in one of his many cars. It was a thrill to say the least.
At the start of sixth grade, Steve and his family relocated to Tenino. He grew up in the Skookumchuck Valley. He made many good friends through school and sports. He loved baseball and football. After graduating from high school, Steve joined the Carpenters Union where he worked as a journey-level carpenter for many years. Steve was a talented craftsman, skilled in woodworking and experienced in all areas of building.
In 1989, he married Kristie Young and became a stepfather to her three sons, Derek, Jeff and Brian. They had three children, Elias, Alex and Abby.
Steve was preceded in death by his mother Linda Kuntz Slusher Petrich.
He is survived by his stepfather Richard Petrich; his three children Elias, Alex and Abby; stepsons Derek, Jeff and Brian; grandchildren Liam, Logan and Casey; sister Shelly Petrich Forest (Lou Baker); and brother Jeff Petrich (Michelle).
Steve will be laid to rest at the Grand Mound Cemetery in Rochester, Washington.
Sticklin’s Funeral Home, of Centralia, Washington will handle the cremation and placement of ashes in the Grand Mound Cemetery in Rochester, Washington.
