Gene Raymond Matthiesen

Gene passed away at his residence on Wednesday, January 31st, 2024 at the age of 88 years. He was born on December 24th, 1935 to Raymond and Jean Margretta (Wulz) Matthiesen in Chehalis, Washington. Gene was a life-long residence of Lewis County. He graduated from W.F. West High School in 1954. That same year, on December 4th, he married Wilma Ann Dotson; they raised three children together, one son and two daughters.

Gene made a living for his family in the dairy and poultry industries.

Gene was a member of the Lewis County Dairy Federation for years, and served as President for one year. He also served on the Lewis County Soil Conservation District Board for several years. He was a 4-H leader for the Forest 4-H’ers in which his children were members of.

Gene and Wilma enjoyed camping at the local beaches and lakes with their children and friends. Car trips to eastern Washington were also one of his favorite get a ways.

Later in life, Gene and Wilma attended antique auctions finding furniture to restore and collect. Cheese dishes and glassware were always a favorite find.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Jean Matthiesen; his stepfather Glen Burton; brother Ronald Burton; son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Micki Matthiesen; nephew Jed Boles; and sister-in-law Linda Dotson.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Wilma; their two daughters Kim (John) Hagara and Jill

(Ron) Lambert; 6 grandchildren Jake Lambert, John Hagara, Raymond Lambert, Katie Hagara, Veronica Wike, and Cody Lambert; 11 great-grandchildren; niece Jody Cate; and nephew Mark Boles; and several grand nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank those that assisted in Gene’s care. Your help and presence made the time easier to bear.

A Celebration of Gene's Life will be held Monday, February 12, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Sticklin Funeral Chapel, 1437 S Gold St, Centralia, Washington 98531.

Gene will be laid to rest in Claquato Cemetery, 142 Stearns Rd, Chehalis, Washington 98532.
