November 17, 1936 – December 13, 2024
Dorothy Jane Mitchell, known affectionately as “Grandma Dot Com,” passed away on December 13, 2024, at the age of 88, surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born on November 17, 1936, in Longmont, Colorado, to Victor and Irene LeComte.
On June 6, 1954, Dorothy married Gilbert "Tom" Mitchell, an Air Force airman. Together, they moved frequently before planting roots in Mossyrock, Washington, in 1966. Soon after, they welcomed Dorothy’s parents as neighbors, where Dorothy lovingly took on the role of caring for them, further strengthening their close-knit family home. Dorothy took immense pride in providing her children with a stable upbringing, ensuring all five graduated from Mossyrock High School.
Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Tom; her parents; and two infant brothers. She is survived by her five children: Dennis (Diana) Mitchell, Kevin (Kim) Mitchell, Debbie Johnson, Sheri (Fred) Hendricks, and Vicki (Loren) Thiel; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Ella Mae Carbaugh, and family; and many friends from Silver Acres who became like family.
Dorothy had a green thumb, particularly with African violets and strawberries. She adored her Japanese Chins—Griz, Lucky, and Bittles—and took great joy in their companionship. A spirited cribbage player, she brought a playful sense of competition to every game, especially with her grandchildren. Her famous milkshakes were a special treat, cherished by all who had the pleasure of enjoying them. Dorothy loved feeding the squirrels and birds that visited her yard.
An excellent cook, she loved crafting and recently found great joy in Diamond Art. Dorothy rarely missed her children’s or grandchildren’s sporting events, always cheering them on with pride.
Her life was about love, kindness, and putting her family first. She was a loving daughter, wife, mom, and grandma. She will be missed and always remembered.
A viewing to honor Dorothy's life will be held at Sticklin Funeral Chapel on January 3, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow on January 4, 2025, at noon at Doss Cemetery, with a reception to celebrate her memory at Mossyrock Assembly of God.
