Oscar Graden Smith Jr., age 89, of St. Martinville, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2022. Oscar was born October 7, 1932 in Taylorsville, MS. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, and was stationed in Formosa as a radio intercept operator. Upon leaving the military he married the love of his life, Mildred Dickson. They started a family and ultimately settled in Baton Rouge, LA. Oscar loved the outdoors, particularly fishing and hunting. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, spending many weekends and holidays with them. He will be remembered by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as a storyteller and a jokester. He will be remembered as a father that was wise, readily willing to give sound advice, and was a very loving and gentle man. Oscar was a loyal friend and will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his children, David Graden Smith (Karen), Janet Smith Guidry (Darren); sisters, Pat Yagel (George), Beth Lindbergh (Joe); grandchildren, Abbey Savage (Mark),Darcee Bulliard (Seth), Ashton Guy (Mi'Cael), Victoria Castille (Jeremy), Amelia Guidry, Adisyn Guidry; great-grandchildren, Adam Anthony, Londyn Mikayla, Lucas Joseph, Clotille Nicolette, Lawson Wayne, Lucille Adine, Emmy Claire, Lennox Mi'Cael, Ryan Reed, Lincoln Jude, Lillian Elizabeth, and Henslee Karilyn Bulliard due in June; and many nieces and nephews.
Oscar is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Dickson Smith, his father, Oscar Graden Smith, Sr., his mother, Thelma Carolyn Gibson Smith, his sister, Minnie Jo Boudreaux, and his brother William S. Smith.
Family and friends are invited to attend the memorial service on Friday, April 8, 2022 at Central Funeral Home, 9995 Hooper Rd, Central from 9:00 am - 11:00 am with the service beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will immediately follow in Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery.
