In loving memory of Stephen Bing Wong, who passed away on Friday, February 21, 2020 at the age of 77. He was the father of daughters Lai Phun and Lai Jin Wong, and Choi Wah Garcia. Stephen is also survived by his sister and best friend, Mei-lan, and husband Armand. He is also survived by his sisters, April and Mei-ling, and nieces Monica, Michelle, Haan-Fawn, Haan-Yule, and Haanwa. Stephen was the eldest child of Stephen and Beatrice Wong. He graduated from Mississippi Southern University and was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Field Artillery as a 1st Lieutenant stationed in Germany. He worked at IBM, St. Joe Minerals, and for the New York City Department of Education as a high school mathematics teacher. He resided in Brooklyn, NY and later in Old Saybrook, CT. Stephen was an amiable and loving person who enjoyed the company of family and friends and never hesitated to listen to others and to offer advice. He was civic minded, and taught English on a volunteer basis to newly arrived Asian immigrants. In his later years, he was a close friend of Terry Hoagland at the Gladeview Health Care Center in Old Saybrook, CT. Throughout his life, Stephen loved computers, and playing bridge and chess. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made in Stephen's memory to SCOPE, a nonprofit organization that provides children from low-income families with access to overnight summer camp. https://scopeusa.org/donate
