Earl Edward Goodwin, age 98, longtime resident of Essex Ct, passed away suddenly from a brief illness at Middlesex hospital on September 6, 2023. Born on October 7, 1924 in Exeter, New Hampshire, he was the only son of the late Earl Hartley Goodwin and Mildred Josephine Collins. Upon high school graduation at 18 years old, Earl served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. As a highly decorated veteran, Earl fought in the pacific aboard the USS Hancock and was awarded: The Philippian Liberation Medal, The Air Medal, The Asiatic Campaign Medal, The American Area Campaign Medal, The WWII Victory Air Medal, The Air Crewman Medal and The Good Conduct Medal. He lived in Lynn, Mass. where he met the love of his life, Dorothy Jean Gray. Earl graduated from Northeastern University in Boston, Mass. with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He went to work for Electric Boat in Groton, Ct. and in the 1960’s he moved the family to Fort Worth, Texas where he worked on the F-16 fighter planes. Years later, he returned to his New England roots and Electric Boat to complete his illustrious career at General Dynamics. Earl loved his family, adored his wife Jean, four children whom he taught to love God, country, help those less fortunate and to pray, and believe in the power of prayer. Our dad loved golf; especially with his dad, loved the ocean, New England, The Dallas Cowboys, classical music, musicals, opera’s and could carry a conversation from art to business. He was a lifelong Elk and a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Old Saybrook. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jean, his oldest son Earl Edward Goodwin Jr., (Buzz)and his uncle; Eric Harvey Goodwin. Earl leaves behind his son, Paul (Lizabeth), son, Kenneth Lee (Kathy), beloved daughter Cindy (Erich), niece, Nancy Scott, numerous other nieces and nephews, grandchildren; Kristin, (Jack) Ross, (Vanessa) Nathaniel, Kenny lee Jr., (Devon) Michael, Jesse, and five great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
