It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Robert William Swanagon on October 22, 2024 at the age of 71. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose legacy of love will forever resonate within our family and beyond.
Born on July 11, 1953, Bob (or “Bobby”) lived in various places throughout his childhood and adult life, including Texas and Oklahoma. He met the love of his life, Jennifer Horton, at age 17 when they were high schoolers. Together, they went to the University of Oklahoma. While at OU, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a master’s degree in Regional and Urban Planning. Bob and Jennifer went from being high school sweethearts to creating a beautiful life together, celebrating almost forty-eight years of marriage. They have always remained faithful Sooners fans. He was a completely devoted husband to Jennifer and a dedicated father to their daughter, Sara and father-in-law to Chris. He absolutely adored his grandsons, Colin and William. His family was his biggest pride and joy in life.
Bob led a passionate and heartfelt life, dedicated not only to his family, but to his career and hobbies. He thoroughly enjoyed his work, which primarily focused on the development of large- scale transportation and infrastructure projects across North America. He worked as an executive alongside many wonderful colleagues and friends at AECOM and Morrison Knudsen. Some of the projects he was most proud to be a part of included the Gordie Howe Bridge, the World Trade Center Transportation Hub, and the Denver RTD Light Rail system, among numerous others. His commitment to making the world a better place was evident in every project he undertook.
Bob found joy in fly-fishing, cherishing family trips in the mountains and rivers of Colorado and Montana. Among his favorite memories were times spent on the banks of and in the midst of beautiful rivers with his family. Bob and Jennifer had a love of traveling together and especially enjoyed their trips to Europe and Hawaii. His enthusiasm for life and philosophical mind inspired those around him. He took much inspiration from literature, philosophy and poetry. Some of his most cherished included the poetry of Mary Oliver, books by Carlo Rovelli, and A River Runs Through It, by Norman MacLean.
Throughout the past year, Bob fought hard against brain cancer in the form of CNS Lymphoma. We are grateful for all who were part of his care team. Bob is survived by his wife Jennifer Swanagon, daughter Sara Swanagon Cosenza and her husband Chris Cosenza, grandsons Colin Pierce and William Louis Cosenza, and sister Jan Williams and her loving family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Wilson and Violet Kommer Swanagon. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Rest in peace, dear one. You will forever be in our hearts, and your legacy of love and devotion lives on.
