Marilyn Ruth Norman Ott of Morrison, Colorado passed peacefully on Tuesday, October 23, 2018. Born April 3, 1937 in Vienna, West Virginia, the third of six children and oldest of four sisters born to Marvin and Ruth Norman. Marilyn graduated from Parkersburg High School and went to school at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, where she met her future husband Henry "Hank" Ott. They married December of 1957, and moved to Denver, Colorado, beginning a series of moves that would take them, and their three children, around the world, returning to Denver for their retirement years.
Gracious in all she did and generous and kind to all she knew, she was defined by her love of family, her sly sense of humor, and her seemingly infinite capacity to be of service to others. A seamstress, interior designer, real estate broker, and stock trader, Marilyn brought creativity to, and sought perfection in all she pursued. She applied her myriad talents and passions most often for the benefit others; sewing for weddings and events of family and friends, dedicating herself to a decade of planning, organizing, and shopping for charity bazaars while living overseas, and donating many of her real estate earnings back to young struggling clients. She proved an important contributor to Hank's professional career by entertaining dignitaries, acting as an ad hoc ambassador to his governmental oil partners and serving as a driving force behind the programs and charitable accomplishments of the International Petroleum's Women's Association. Selfless in all that she did, always preferring the comfort and happiness of others to her own, she was an example and inspiration to all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband, Hank Ott; her children, Wendelyn Walberg, Megan Cooper, and Kevin Ott; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her three sisters, Jane Eakins, Mary Sizemore, and Beth Cremeans; and her sister-in-law, Barbara Norman. She was preceded in death by her parents; two elder brothers, Ed Norman and Dick Norman; and her granddaughter, Erin Walberg.
A Memorial Service honoring Marilyn was held at 2:00 pm, January 5, 2019 at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6601 S Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO 80121, followed immediately by a Celebration of Life Reception in the Summit Room.
A Committal Service will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, January 14, 2019 at Fort Logan National Cemetery - Staging Area B, 4400 W Kenyon Ave, Denver, CO 80236. Marilyn was a strong supporter of veterans organizations; in lieu of flowers, contributions to any veteran's organization would please her.
