Betty Henkowski of Centennial Colorado-born 7/25/1935 in DeKalb, Missouri was 89 years young when she passed away peacefully on November 30th, after being surrounded by all her family over the previous 2 days after a very brief illness.
Betty lived a wonderful life as she often shared with others. She grew up on a farm in Northwest Missouri with her parents Everett and Mildred Pitts and two brothers Otho Pitts and Bernard Pitts. She attended a one building schoolhouse from 1st grade to high school. Then went onto Business school and Northwest Missouri State College to obtain her Teaching degree. She met her future husband David Henkowski during college in the Fall of 1954 and were married New Year’s Eve 1955. After marriage Betty taught school until she started her family in 1956. She was dedicated to raising her family as they moved from Missouri to Sioux City, IA in 1967 and then onto Denver, Colorado in 1977. Once her last child was secured in high school she had a yearning to work outside the home again. As luck would have it she answered an add for an assistant with a new up and coming company at the time “The Apartment Store” and started a new job/career that came with friends for life as well. The company evolved and grew as did Betty and she enjoyed her work life over 20 years before retiring. Retirement provided time for bible study, clubs (Mosaics), working out with Silver Sneakers and enjoying life with family and friends.
Betty often said her life was blessed to have so many family, friends, associates and people she worked with through her long life. In her own words “All I ever wanted was children so I am happy and still love being with babies and people in general” She sincerely loved all.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband David in 2001 and has left behind her 5 children Derek (Lora) Henkowski, Eric Henkowski, Nick Henkowski, Angela O’Neal (Rodger) and Amy Ollo (David). Grandchildren-Joshua Thallas (Tiffany), Wade Henkowski (Samantha), Colton Henkowski (Audrey), Collin O’Neal (Logan), Colby O’Neal, Connor O’Neal and Helana Ollo. Great-Grandchildren- Isabella Thallas, LuciaThallas, Hunter Hegstrom, Jacob Hernandez, Jaxon Hegstrom, Maddison Henkowski, David Henkowski, Caden O’Neal, Cal O’Neal and Jack O’Neal.
Betty cared about many humanitarian causes. If in lieu of flowers you would like to make a donation in her name to a charity dear to you that would be wonderful.
