Kathy was wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandma. She had a huge, generous heart, and loved to laugh and play games. She left many friends behind to move to Belle Fourche, South Dakota due to her fierce commitment to family. She trusted Christ as her Savior when she was a child, and, till recent years has been highly involved with church along with her husband Don.
At 20 months, Kathy became very ill and, unknown to her parents, lost her hearing. When they discovered that she had lost her hearing, her parents, Murrell and Eileen Stevens made the difficult decision to give up their farm and move to Denver, where Kathy attended regular school, even though she was deaf. She did learn to sign outside of high school thru friends.
In the fall of 1972, Kathy met the love of her life, Don Labun, at Tennessee Temple College while playing pinball. On June 8, 1974 they married in Denver, Colorado at South Sheridan Baptist Church. On Valentine's Day in 1981, they expanded their family with the adoption of their daughter, Clorinda.
Church was a big staple in the family. They participated in the Awana program. Both Kathy and Don taught sign language class. Kathy loved music, watching Clorinda play the violin and sister Lorrie play the piano.
You had to be very careful about what you thought you were saying in private, because Kathy could read your lips from across the room! She will be greatly missed, but we rejoice in the knowledge that we will see her smiling face again!
Kathy is survived by her husband of 50 years, Don; daughter, Clorinda (Kenneth); three grandchildren, Kenneth (Miracle), Cody (Danika), and Danté; three great-grandchildren, Paisley, Oakley, and Kathryn and brother Art and niece Shannon.
