John Lawrence Marshall, aged 90, passed away on November 2, 2023, at his residence in Gunnison, Colorado. He was born on October 3, 1933, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Lawrence Clair and Audrey Oma Marshall, and was raised in Wymore, Nebraska.
After graduating from Wymore High School in 1951, John enlisted in the U.S. Navy in February 1952. He served for 4 years, part of which was aboard the USS WASP.
Upon returning home, he met and married the love of his life, Maxine Vitosh, in 1957. The couple lived in Wymore, Nebraska for a few years before relocating out west and settling in Colorado in 1961, where they established their home for nearly 60 years. After residing in Northglenn for almost 40 years, they moved to Castle Rock in 2000 and remained there for two more decades. John relocated to Gunnison following Maxine's passing in 2020.John dedicated 40 years of his life to working for the railroad, serving with C&S and Burlington Northern, and Secretary and Treasurer for these 2 plus Union Pacific and Santa Fe.
A devoted family man, John's passion for fishing was rivaled only by his love for his grandchildren. He had an unyielding youthful spirit and adored spending time with children, especially his grandchildren. Fishing was a favorite pastime for John, frequently making trips to Wyoming, sometimes with his children, to fish for hours. He also organized family trips to Clearwater Lake in Minnesota, a place steeped in family history from his youth.
John is survived by his children: Rex (Jodi) Marshall, John J. (Jennifer) Marshall, and Michele (Tony) Lambert. He is also survived by sisters Barbara Kostal and Judy (Walt) Henrichs. Additionally, he is survived by his grandchildren Aaron (Jamie), Laura (Cody), Brent (Brooke), Scott (Kathleen), Jake, Luke, Marissa (Luke), Madison, Jack, and two great-grandchildren, Caden and Haleigh.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Maxine, his parents, Clair and Audrey Marshall, and his sister Louise Searcey.

Maxine Vitosh Marshall (09/30/1935 - 09/19/2020)
Maxine Rose (Vitosh) Marshall, age 84, passed away September 19, 2020 after a lengthy struggle with dementia. She was born on September 30, 1935 to Joseph and Rose Vitosh and raised in Odell Nebraska, a real farm girl. She graduated from Odell High School in 1953 and attended Fairbury Junior College for a year.
She met the love of her life, John Lawrence Marshall in 1956 and they were married October 26, 1957. They lived in Wymore, Nebraska for a couple years before pulling up stakes and moving out west and settling in Colorado in 1961 where they have lived for nearly 60 years. After almost 40 years in Northglenn, they moved to Castle Rock in 2000 where she was at the time of her passing.
Maxine was a sweet, caring person, especially when it came to children. She worked in the Elemenatary schools in Northglenn with her retirement from North Mor as Head Secretary. She loved teaching Sunday school at her long time church, Northglenn Christian church.
Maxine was a master gardener and won neighborhood awards twice for best yard! She became an inspirational painter, and amazed her family with beautiful landscapes on farms and mountains.
Maxine is survived by children Rex (Jodi) Marshall, John J. (Jennifer) Marshall, and Michele (Tony) Lambert along with brother, Arnie, and sister Lorraine Bates. Also survived by her grandchildren Aaron (Jamie), Laura (Cody), Brent (Brooke), Scott (Kathleen), Jake, Luke, Marissa (Luke), Madison, Jack, and 2 great grandchildren, Caden and Haleigh.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Rose Vitosh, and her brothers Melvin, Leroy, Larry, Walter and Gary.
