Jim was a Colorado native, born on July 25th, 1940 and raised in North Denver. Jim attended Columbian Elementary School, Skinner Junior High School, and North High School. Someone with an exceptional work ethic, Jim started working at the young age of 14 at Dolly Madison Creamery, and later at his family’s business, Golden Flake Pie Company. At 17, Jim was proud to serve our country by joining the Navy, where he was stationed on the USS Bennington in San Diego. After his service, he joined the City of Golden Police Department and volunteered at their fire department. Jim then worked for Sileo Electronics before beginning his long career in the automotive industry. In 1970, Jim started at Deane Buick, and then moved to Ralph Schomp Automotive where he was employed for 41 years, starting in sales and moving his way up to Director of Human Resources.
Jim met the love of his life, Dorothy (Dotty) Patricia Herrin Biner, while they were in junior high and they fell in love when they attended high school together. Jim was overjoyed to marry Dotty on June 7, 1959. Together, they had three children, Julie, Jamie, and John, who inherited his kindness and quick wit. Jim and Dotty bought their first house in Arvada where they raised their family. After their kids were grown, Jim and Dotty were able to fulfill Jim’s dream of living in the mountains when they bought a house in Pine Junction. Later in their lives, they moved back to the Denver area, residing in Littleton and Centennial. Their family grew to include 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, all of whom adored their “Gramper.”
Jim was dedicated to serving his community. He was a founding member of the Annual Fire Muster in conjunction with Mile High Hook and Ladder Club, where he helped coordinate an annual parade of vintage and active-duty fire trucks for over 30 years. Jim drove his own antique fire truck at the fire musters, as well as at Western Welcome Week, 4th of July and St Patrick Day parades. Jim was also involved in Kiwanis Club, Englewood Chamber of Commerce, Englewood Lions Club, and was a proud member of Gideons International for 30 years. Jim’s love for Jesus was evident to all who met him, and he was blessed to be a member of Arapahoe Road Baptist Church.
Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dotty; his three children, Julie (& Dan) Babcock, Jamie (& Tim) Kendrick, and John (& Amy) Biner; seven of his grandchildren, Keith (& Mackenzie) Kendrick, Lindsey (& Zach) Silver, Jennie Babcock (& Matt Burns), and Emily, Zach, Katie, and Madeline Biner; seven of his great grandchildren, Landon, Cameron, Jordan, and Natalie Silver, and Hailey, Holly, and Mason Kendrick; and his sister Barbara Biner. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Vivian Biner, his granddaughter Janean Kendrick, and his great grandson Tilden Kendrick.
Jim was a rare soul who spread kindness, care, and joy to all who were lucky enough to cross his path. He never met a stranger, welcoming everyone in with a ready laugh and a quick wink. Jim’s love for his friends was surpassed only by his love for his family and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He will be missed so dearly.
Jim’s family would like to thank all of the friends and family that have surrounded them with love and support through texts, calls, cards, visits, food and prayers. In lieu of flowers, donations would be welcomed to Arapahoe Road Baptist Church or Gideons International.
