My name is Frances Roth; I was born on June 14, 1919 in Littleton, Colorado. My nickname is Freddie. One thing that people really like about me is that I have an answer for everything. I love to go bowling, play horseshoe pitching, and I like to try my luck at fly fishing. In fact, I am in the Horseshoe Pitching Hall of Fame for Colorado and I did a TV documentary with Curt Goudy on fly fishing, my favorite song is "Don't Fence Me In", and I really love fried chicken. One of my favorite books is "Gone With The Wind".
I am proud to say that the State of Colorado has dedicated an award after me. It is called the Frances M. Roth Memorial Award. It is presented annually to a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician chosen from EMT's throughout the state. I was honored to be the first recipient of this award in 2003. Someone that I really admire is Bob Champion. He was a famous horse pitcher. He won the 1986 Stokes Memorial Award for fostering and promoting the sport. I would say that Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the greatest President because he was a friend to everybody.
The greatest invention was the automobile. The bombing of Pearl Harbor is the world event that left a lasting impression on me. Not many people know that I enjoy woodworking, carpentry, mechanics and plumbing. I was a school bus driver for 32 years, and was awarded "Denver Public Schools Bus Driver of the Year" in 1972.
I met the love of my life, John Felix Roth at a Grange dance in 1938. He was always very "happy go lucky", and he liked everybody. I would say that the key to a successful marriage is to do things together. As a parent I am most proud of the success of my children. My words of advice to young people are "always do your best".
I would like to be remembered as a "one of a kind" person and a GREAT grandma to all of my grandchildren. I would like to add that I built my own house and have many trophies for bowling and horseshoe pitching. I coached Little League Baseball, taught swimming and won a national pancake contest in 1959 at Disneyland. There have been several newspaper articles written about me.
