Elizabeth "Libby" Jane Gammon

Libby is a graduate of Bradley University in 1949 with a BS in Speech and Radio and then graduated from Moody Bible Institute in 1953 in Christian Education and Music.

The highlights of her education revolved around music. As an active and sought after soloist, member of the Moody Choral, Libby became the Singing Lady and sang on WMBI Radio. She and Philip were also story tellers as Mother and Father voices of a popular WMBI family radio programme.

Libby had a wide and eclectic professional portfolio - as professional musician, Pastor’s wife, legal secretary, early education school teacher, personal assistant, many years she supported Phil as church secretary, and co-partner in numerous mission societies including numerous trips around the Globe as together, they served on numerous Mission Boards and Societies. They often traveled abroad, supporting missionaries that were serving as teachers, medical staff, engineers and many other professions throughout Africa, India, and the Americas.

Libby’s early years were spent in Peoria, her higher education in Chicago and early married life in Wheaton, Illinois. Philip’s job took the couple to the east coast, living first in New York City then several locations in northern New Jersey. Over the years, as Philip took pastoral, publishing and editing, mission positions, they also created homes in Minnesota, Cape Cod and finally Denver, Colorado, where together they lived out their lives at the Christian Living Center.

Libby’s hobbies and interests revolved primarily around music. She and her husband Phil loved attending concerts but Libby also sang and led singing for many events. She was director for both the adult and children’s choirs in several churches. She always wanted the participants to enjoy the music and have fun singing but she also held high standards for performances to bring glory and honor to God. She was the choir director at Clermont Park for about 18 years into her 90s, when she “passed the baton” to others. She enjoyed participating in the dramatic productions at Clermont Park, playing the role of Golde in the earlier rendition of “Fiddler on the Roof” as well as roles in other CLC productions. Libby was also an avid reader and member of the CLC book club. For many years, Libby volunteered in the CLC Gift shop and Front Desk Receptionist and in many other small ways around the community.

Libby was a loyal wife, and devoted, loving and caring mother, grandmother, “GG” (Great Grandmother) and friend. It was always a joy to spend time with her family – both here in Colorado and also with her daughter and son-in-law in Switzerland via Skype on an almost daily basis. There is only one “Libby” a tiny 5-foot package of dynamic energy, determination, resilience, emotional expression and whole-hearted live-er! For all those that know her, there is a space of “Libby-ness” that will be hard to fill! But we are so thankful for the peaceful and gentle way that God carried her to eternity to be with Him and with her husband Philip and all those loved ones and friends who she will see again.

Libby is survived by her daughters, Heather Lynn (Gammon) Cutillo married to Robert Cutillo, who reside in Denver, Colorado and Robyn Elizabeth (Gammon) married to Remy Renaud and who live in Switzerland. She also leaves granddaughter, Kate Cutillo Miller; married to Tim Miller and their 2 children; Theo and Lily Miller; grandson, Steve Cutillo; married to Rachel (Giovarelli) Cutillo and their 2 children Rory(Aurora) and Stella Cutillo.

Libby is predeceased by her husband Philip Patten Gammon, her half-brother, Leamon Beeney and his wife, Elva, children Robert, Bille, and half-brother, Ervin, and his wife Wilma.

Elizabeth Gammon will be buried next to her husband, Philip, on Friday, October 15th, 2021 in a small family ceremony. A celebration of Libby's life will be held at Clermont Park on November 21, 2021 at 1 pm

The family of Elizabeth (Libby) Gammon would like to give very special thanks to all the staff and her friends at Clermont Park who have enriched her life these past 20+ years. The warmth of the community, the many Chapel services she participated in, the musical and drama events and other activities and the many friendships she enjoyed made these later years of her life rich and full.
