Ed enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 17. While in the Air Force Ed was trained as a computer operator at a time when computers were first being developed.
He was able to use the computer technology training he received from the Air Force to have a career in the Information Technology industry.
Even though Ed enjoyed working with computers he jumped at the chance to become a pilot. He completed flight school at the top of his class. He graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant and was stationed at Bartow Air Base in Bartow, Florida. Ed’s next assignment was to Webb Air Force Base in Big Springs, Texas where he trained to be a jet fighter and graduated as a 1st Lieutenant.
Ed spent 6 years in the Air Force and had the privilege to be an instructor of nuclear weapons delivery while stationed at Homestead Air Force Base in Florida. This was during the Cold War when our country was threatened by the Soviet Union at the height of the Cuban missile crisis. Ed was proud of his time in the Air Force and his service to his country.
One of Ed’s most cherished memories from his flying days was when he flew in a formation of 16 jet fighters through the Grand Canyon below the rim of the canyon.
After he was honorably discharged from the Air Force Ed worked for General Electric in Phoenix, Arizona as Supervisor of Computer Operations. He later decided to move to Colorado and was employed by Martin Marietta. Ed then moved on to work for the City and County of Denver as a manager in the Data Processing Department. Ed retired from the City and County of Denver after 22 years in 1990.
Ed was a skilled and exceptional outdoorsman, athlete, hunter, skier, fisherman, golfer and expert horseman.
Family gatherings and reunions were Ed’s forte and prior to the stroke he suffered nine years ago, he was very active enjoying entertaining, cooking, gardening, good food, friends, and family.
Ed found comfort, solace and guidance from his faith in Jesus Christ. He loved to share the history of his personal relationship with the Lord Jesus and shared the story of God’s grace and blessings with others.
Ed’s remarkable zest for life and love of family and Christ are cherished. Ed leaves behind his beloved wife Aletha and two brothers, Curtis Randall and Dann and his Aunt Martha. Ed enjoyed a special relationship with his beloved nephew Lee. He also leaves behind his nephew, nieces, cousins, and a host of treasured relatives. His sister Catherine and parents Jean and Lee predeceased him. Ed died peacefully at home on May 15, 2013.
