It is with great sadness to announce the passing of David White Mason on March 15, 2022, in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. He was 82.
David was born in Lockport, New York to The Rev. Joseph Clarkson Mason Sr. and Ellen Marghreta White. He attended The Pomfret School, class of ’58, and Lehigh University, class of ’62. He majored in Education and was a high school math teacher early in his career. David served in the United States Army between 1966 and 1968. He enjoyed his 30-year career with IBM, having worked on the teams in the 1970s that developed the precursor to what he called the “computer in the home”, The IBM PC.
He loved the game of golf and frequently joked how he used to aim for a score that matched is age, but then settled to aim for his temperature. He was proud of his score of 89 at the St. Andrews Old Course in Scotland. He and his wife Mary were avid Appalachian mountain dulcimer players, often playing as a duo in western North Carolina where they lived for 20 years. He was also a really great Dad.
He is predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Mary Mann Mason; and brother Joseph Clarkson Mason, Jr.
He is survived by his daughter, Virginia “Ginny” Mason (David Lambert) of Denver, Colorado; one nephew, two nieces, and their families.
David will be laid to rest at Trinity Episcopal Church in Hartford, Connecticut near his wife Mary and where they were married in 1963. A small service will be held on May 2nd at 2pm at Trinity Episcopal Church, 120 Sigourney St, Hartford, CT 06105.
