Daniel was a Colorado native born in Denver on October 9, 1952 to the late Harvey L. Nelson and the late Dorothy Hamilton.
After graduating high school, he served in the U.S Navy during the Vietnam War. Upon his return from Vietnam he served in the reserves and was activated to serve during the disaster recovery of Hurricane Katrina and also deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Daniel was a very proud American and was always willing to help out anyone, especially his fellow veterans.
He had several passions that he loved sharing. He loved dancing, riding his Harley and welding art pieces. You could often find him dancing at Wildefire Bistro with friends. He was an active member of the Combat Veteran Motorcycle Association Chapter 3-1. He enjoyed riding with his fellow veterans especially when they were doing charity rides. In the late 1970’s he worked on his associate degree in welding and continued making wire art from small wall hangings to life size sculptures.
Daniel is survived by his adopted son Vincent Chiclacos of Denver, a daughter Felicia Joy of Denver, a brother, Steve Nelson of Florida, five cousins, Cory “Ben” Hamilton (Ann) of Fort Morgan, CO, Casey (Jennifer) Hamilton of Parker, CO, Scott (Ofelia) Hamilton of North Carolina, Joshua (Michele) of Fort Morgan, CO and Jason (Jennifer) of Denver, CO.
Preceding him in death were his parents Dorothy Hamilton & Harvey Nelson, sister Shirley Nelson, grandparents Leon N. Hamilton Sr. and Catherine Hamilton, an uncle Leon N. Hamilton Jr., an aunt Wanda Hamilton, cousins Kevin Hamilton, Kirby Hamilton and Dustin Hamilton.
Services will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at 1:30pm at Fort Logan National Cemetery 4400 W. Kenyon Ave Denver, CO, followed by a memorial and reception at Wildefire Bistro 15352 E. Ida Dr. Aurora, CO 80015.
