John Hall Ashby

On July 3, 2013, JOHN HALL ASHBY passed away. He is the beloved husband of the late Rev. Mary-Patricia Neese Ashby; loving father of John Gordon Ashby and wife Holly D., and Susan A. Ashby; cherished grandfather of William G. and Katherine L. Ashby; dear brother of Linda Mundis and Jennie Crkvenac died of cardiac complications. John was 73. He was born in 1939 in Martins Ferry, OH. He grew up in Tiltonsville, OH with his two younger sisters. After graduating from Warren Consolidated High School, John attended Kent State University to study history – he always knew he was meant to teach. John graduated from Kent State University in 1961 and went on to complete his Masters Degree at American University where he met his future wife, Mary-Pat. He matriculated in June of 1963, and John & Mary-Pat were married the day after graduation. They ultimately settled in Catonsville, MD after he accepted a position as a professor of American history at Catonsville Community College where he taught for 36 years before he retired. John & Mary-Pat moved to Mount Airy, MD and lived there until her death in 2012 when he moved to Shrewsbury, PA to be closer to his children and grandchildren.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 17th from 3-5 & 7-9PM at STERLING-ASHTON-SCHWAB-WITZKE FUNERAL HOME OF CATONSVILLE, INC.; 1630 Edmondson Avenue; Catonsville, MD 21228. A funeral service will be celebrated 4PM, Thursday, July 18th at Cathedral of the Incarnation; 4 East University Parkway; Baltimore, MD 21218.
