on December 30, 2022, at the age of 83, after a 2-year battle with ALS.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Patty Congdon. Together they have 4
children,Tricia Congdon, Tod (Natasha) Congdon, Teryl (Ray) Gonzalez, and Thor Congdon,
7 grandchildren, Natali and Amy Underwood, Sander (Esther) Gonzalez, Connor, and Wil
(Sarah) Gonzalez, and Sasha and Amber Congdon, and five great-grandchildren, London
and Vivienne Marbury as well as Valor, Alexander, and Ezra Gonzalez. He is also lovingly
remembered by his sisters Pat (Dean) Anderson and Margie (Rhandy) Rodgers.
Gene was born in Fort Collins, CO on October 3, 1939, to Albert and Alice Congdon. He
graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1957. He attended Multnomah School of the
Bible, graduating with a Bible Certificate in 1962 and a Bachelor’s of Biblical Studies in
1984.
His entire life was characterized by whole-hearted service to the Lord. Inspired by the
martyrdom of missionary pilot Nate Saint, Gene took flying lessons from his father and
went on to serve through Mission Aviation Fellowship from 1964-1995 as a missionary
pilot, mechanic, administrator, and recruiter. He served in Mexico, Indonesia, Albania, and
at MAF’s headquarters in California.
In 1997 Gene’s ministry focus shifted to international students here in Colorado. Gene loved
introducing students to Jesus and spending time with them, outdoors if possible! Life was at
its best when he was camping, fishing or hiking, especially if it was one of Colorado’s
“14ers.”
Gene was a man of prayer, faithfully participating in the Mission Hills prayer ministry, as
well as other groups, even when he could no longer attend in person. We rejoice with him
that he must no longer pray in faith, but can now talk with his beloved Jesus face to face.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.OlingerAndrews.com for the Congdon family.
