Terre Haute, Indiana. His parents were Leon and Thelma
and they enjoyed moving about Indiana, living in several
cities and towns. Dick went to high school in
Indianapolis and was chosen as a United Nations
ambassador with a trip to New York City. After high
school graduation, Dick attended Purdue University and
the University of Colorado.
Dick joined the Army with basic training at Fort Carson
and then he was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas.
He worked his way up to Private First Class and became a
trainer. This would put him on an occupational path to
becoming a Logistics Training Manager at Martin
Marietta, where he would work for over 35 years. During
his time at Martin Marietta, Dick would work in the
aerospace division. He worked among the space pioneers
working on Apollo 12 and Skylab.
Dick met Mary Josella Lubeck before he joined the Army.
They fell madly in love and decided to get married.
Getting a pass from the Army to return to Colorado for
the wedding proved to be tricky and thoughts of going
AWOL swirled about. Fortunately, it all worked out and
they were married on August 2, 1958. A daughter would
be born to them the following year, Laura Kathleen
Creasey (Nasiatka). Laura married Dave Nasiatka and
brought 2 amazing grandchildren into the family:
Katherine Jo Nasiatka and Patrick Richard Nasiatka.
Dick loved trains. His grandpa Fred was a train engineer
during the “Casey Jones” era and Dick was hooked.
Consequently, Dick became a train hobbyist creating
elaborate N gauge train layouts. His layouts were famous
among family and friends, who would always ask to see
the trains running. Traveling (especially to Italy), wine,
good food, playing Manipulation (card game), being with
family and friends, taking care of his Subaru, and
gardening were some of Dick’s favorite things to do.
Dick was wise, witty, compassionate, humble, generous,
strong-willed, honest, handsome, protective, motivating
and most of all loving. He is greatly missed by his friends
and family, but has left us a lasting legacy of strength,
humor and love.
