He was born in Hayes County Nebraska on May 17, 1941 eldest of six to Ivan LeRoy Nitsch and Zalia Fern (Claflin) Nitsch. He attended District 38 rural elementary school, graduated from Hayes County High School and attended McCook Junior College.
LeRoy moved to the Denver, Co. area in 1959 and worked for Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co now Century Link. He and his family moved to Castle Rock in 1971. After leaving the telephone company he had antique shops and a furniture refinishing business, Furniture Workshop until his retirement.
He played football in high school and college and held Denver Bronco season tickets for 45 years. He coached Little League football for a time. LeRoy was very active in the Colorado Jaycees. He held many local and state offices in the Jaycees and was a J.C.I. Senator. He served in the US Navy Seabees from June 1962 through June 1964. Serving in Port Hueneme, California., the Philippines and Guam.
November 1959 LeRoy married Kathleen Powell. In January 1961 she and their infant son, Kelly passed away. June 1962 he married Laryce Counce. They had three children. They divorced in 2001. September 2002 he married Wendi Kern. They divorced in 2012.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Zalia, his wife Kathleen and son Kelly, son Brentley and brother Gilbert. He leaves to mourn his son Jeffrey Nitsch (Luann), daughter Jennifer Gosnell, grandchildren Caleb Nitsch (Morgan), Caitlyn Griffin (MC), Aaron Gosnell (Breanna), Trent Gosnell (Riley), great granddaughter Gentry Griffin, brothers Douglas (Kay), Roger (Gin), Charles (Marla), sister Elaine Haarberg (Kent), long time employee and friend Phil Guntle and many nieces and nephews and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at the First United Methodist Church in Castle Rock. A reception will follow the service at the Church.
