Kathy, known as “Pete” by her siblings, was born July 2nd 1944 in Harvey, North Dakota. Kathy grew up in a hard-working farm family and displayed resiliency, persistence, and grit until the day she died. She graduated from West Fargo High School in 1962. After graduation, she married and moved to Aurora CO where she started her family and received a cosmetology degree. She enjoyed it enough to continue cutting hair until she passed.
Kathy had a heart the size of Denver exemplified by her endless dedication and the love she shared with all who knew her. Her soft, tender side was evident, but when challenged, she could hold her own. They say “dynamite comes in small packages” and it couldn't be more true than when it came to Kathy.
Kathy was a kind and compassionate school bus driver for 21 years at Douglas County School District. She was also a “Driver Trainer” for 10 years. You always knew your children were in great hands when she was behind the wheel as she had a flawless driving record.
Kathy showed great dedication to her community as an 18-year member of the Larkspur Volunteer Fire Department. During her tenure, she held various important titles: she was the Captain for 15 years, as well as holding an EMT and certified FireFighter II certificate. She was committed and loyal to the department and gave of herself freely. She later was elected to the Board of Directors, a position she held proudly for 4 years.
Kathy had her own wreath making business and one of her passions included adventuring into the beautiful Colorado back country every year to collect greenery to create her holiday wreaths and gifts. She wanted to share this joy with everyone, so the adventure was usually a family affair with several children, grandchildren and friends eager to spend the day being together and filling the truck with the perfect assortment of greens. It was a real treat to receive one of her handmade wreaths, something everyone looked forward to every year. She poured her heart into creating these wreaths and it brought her so much joy to share these with her family, friends and loyal customers. You could feel the craftsmanship, care and love she imbued into each piece. The special ingredient was always love, and it showed.
Kathy was also an excellent seamstress. She sewed matching outfits for her three daughters when they were young. You always felt special when you received one of her pieces. She was renowned for her house coats, every child and grandchild benefited from her talents, this was a great feat! When you wore it, you knew she loved you because of the time, energy and thought she took to pick out the material and she sewed it with you in mind.
She was a master of the crafts and created treasured crocheted, knitted, and macramé projects. It was a blessing to receive one of her handmade designs.
Kathy was quite the green thumb as evidenced by her house full of plants, herbs and flowers. She took great pride in and had an immaculate yard. You could drive up and see her smiling and waving from her lawn tractor. You could feel the satisfaction she had in maintaining her yard.
Kathy loved the challenge of a good jigsaw puzzle and was happy to share a cup of coffee and work to complete one together. She also enjoyed quiet time with a good book and boasted an impressive library. She was an avid reader and always encouraged reading in her grandchildren.
Never one to miss out on an adventure, you could catch her on a camping or boating outing. It was always a pleasure when invited to spend time on their boat, you knew you were going to have a good time. Kathy wanted everyone to enjoy the lake and being outside and fostered a love for the outdoors in her children. Trips to the lake will always be a treasured memory. She never let anything stand in her way if there was something she wanted to do. She didn’t let any opportunities pass her by and she always wanted her family and friends to experience life with her. She was the glue holding us together.
Kathy is survived by her partner of 30 years, Rick Brock and their collective family of: 7 children, 23 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Kathy was the 3rd of six children born to Kelly and Katherine Sherlock. She has an older brother and sister, as well as a younger sister and two brothers.
Kathy gave her whole heart to her family, friends and community. Her legacy of love and dedication will live on. She will be missed greatly by all who had the pleasure of knowing her and experiencing her strength and resolution.
