He was born on August 8, 1941, in Elmhurst, Illinois, to Conrad and Dorothy Taylor Osborne. On January 4, 1964, he married Janice E. Miller in Villa Park, Illinois.
He retired in 1998 after 36 years from AT&T. He spent his career in microwave, digital and analog. He was also an amateur radio operator belonging to several radio clubs. After he retired, he relocated to Granbury. Texas where he was active in the Hood County Amateur Radio Club and the Lions.
With the radio club, he assisted the Hood County Sheriff’s Department as a severe weather spotter, and assisting in emergency disasters. He often said, “it was the only place I ever lived where I was friends with the county judge, county attorney and the county sheriff.”
He served in the United States Army for 3 years, and as a Vietnam veteran was a lifetime member of the American Legion. In Granbury, he belonged to the Joiner-Fitzhugh Post 278. He served as a 6th District commander in Texas for 2 years.
He is survived by his wife Janice; sons: Jeffery, and Jamie (Sylvia); granddaughters: Ashley, Nicole (Ivan), Kristi (Justice), Brynn, and Sloane; great-grandchildren: Aiden, Jamie, and Brooklynn; sister Nancy (Frank), niece Julie (Al), great nieces and great nephews, and cousin Alan (Miki).
Visitation for Jim will be held Wednesday, October 30, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Olinger Andrews Caldwell Gibson Chapel, 407 Jerry Street, Castle Rock, Colorado 80104.
Committal service will occur Monday, November 25, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 West Kenyon Avenue, Denver, Colorado 80236.
His amateur radio call sign was NJ5O. To all his amateur radio friends: his mic is now silent.
