Edgar D Fox was born April 7, 1937 in Southington, Connecticut to Ralph LeRoy Fox and Faye Fox (McHale). They resided in Bristol CT. Edgar was one of 7 children. Martin Fox, Shirley Fox, Dennis Fox, Arnold Fox, Sandra Fox and Marilyn Fox. Ralph Fox was born in Tarkio Missouri. Faye McHale was born in Blue Hill Nebraska. Faye and Ralph met in Venango Nebraska where Faye’s father was the Sherriff. Faye served Ralph in the local Diner where they met and fell in love. They married and lived in McCook Nebraska. Faye and Ralph moved to Bristol CT where Ralph established an Auto Body Shop, Fox Auto.
The family relocated to Gainesville Florida in 1952. Edgar graduated from Gainesville High School in 1955. The family then relocated to Denver, Colorado in 1955 to be closer to Faye’s brothers Arnold and Edgar. Ed was named after Faye’s favorite brother.
Ed found a job immediately at Martin Marietta where he met his future wife, Joan Marshall. Ed and Joan married and had three daughters Jackie, Julie and Jo Dean. In 1972, the Fox family moved to Sedalia Colorado and lived on a beautiful 11 acre hillside that bordered a creek and has a beautiful view of the Denver skyline in the distance along with mountains and foothills. The house had no telephone and was accessed by miles of dirt roads.
Edgar established a great career at Martin Marietta and was an Operational Manager for Research and Technology at the Aerospace division, however, he was approached to apply for a new position within the State of Colorado. In 1977, he was selected from hundreds of applicants for the position of Director of the Colorado Division of Correctional Industries. He worked for then Governor Lamm. He was responsible for developing inmate training and work programs within the state’s adult correctional facilities. The Rocky Mountain News reported that “Under Fox’s direction, at one time in 1980, there were more inmates assigned to work programs in the correctional industries division of Colorado than in any other state”, “Fox made the Colorado Correctional industries program the most comprehensive and progressive in the Country”.
In 1981, Edgar returned to his passion for aerospace and went back to work at Martin Marietta. He worked on many programs and attained the level of Director. He eventually retired from Lockheed Martin with a long and impressive list of titles and accomplishments not to mention countless friendships.
Edgar had a deep love of family and was blessed with eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. All of the grandchildren have stories of spending the night at Papa’s house and there are many wonderful memories. He loved them dearly and fed their passions for sports, science, education and family.
Edgar is survived by daughter Jackie (Larry) Austin, Julie (Chris) Fortin, and JoDean (Ed) Brewer along with grandchildren Rachel Fox Olivares, Adam Austin, Lindsy Johnson, Michael Crespin, Joseph Fortin, Christopher Fortin, William Brewer and John Brewer. There are nine great grandchildren to include Jacqueline Olivares, Thalia Olivares, Nyssa Olivares, Clara Johnson, Nelly Johnson, Trace Johnson, Zachary Austin, Connor Austin and Harriette Jo Fortin.
