Dr. William Steven Godfrey
December 12, 1953 – May 9, 2024
On May 9, 2024, Dr. William Steven (Steve) Godfrey, 70, passed away, unexpectedly, from a heart attack. Even though a failing heart took him away from this world, his loving heart left a beacon of light for all of us left behind.
Steve achieved many accomplishments on his journey of life. He was most proud of being an Eagle Scout which set the work ethic he carried throughout his life; “Always Be Prepared” and “Treasure Your Country.”
Steve attended UNC-Wilmington his freshman year of college and then transferred to UNC Chapel Hill for Pharmacy School; graduating in 1976 and beginning his journey in pharmacy. Over the years he worked in many pharmacies, even several at a time, to make sure people had the medicines they needed. His journey continued and he became a consultant pharmacist for nursing home patients. His compassion for our older generation was an endearing trait of Steve’s. He loved talking to them and hearing about their life stories.
His journey in education continued at Emory University, University of Florida and UNC-External Pharm D program where he earned his Doctorate degree. His passion for pharmacy was his life.
Steve loved sailing, woodworking, music, hot peppers and dogs – especially basset hounds. Oriental, NC was his happy place where he spent 10 years building a vacation home for his family. Many wonderful memories were made here.
May his journey continue in heaven. He will be most missed here on earth but at least we all know he will be our angel to look after us all. He loved so much.
Steve is survived by his wife of 35 years, Terri and his daughter McKenzie who was his pride and joy. Special friends Maria and Robert Kraus of Wilmington, NC as well as many family members and friends also survive him.
