Tempie was born and raised in Stanley County, NC where she attended New London School. Ben, her husband of 68 years, picked her out as the prettiest girl in their third grade class and has cherished her timeless beauty ever since.
She attended business school prior to working for the Army for 3 years and working for NC State University for 3 years. She took great pride in becoming an honorary Marine later in life.
She and Ben moved their young family to Cary, NC and chose their lifelong home based on the volume of young children in the neighborhood, some of whom remain her children for life.
Tempie was everyone’s mom, always eager to offer all the comforts of home! She loved the beach, flowers, jewelry, and all things beautiful. Her great sense of humor and love of laughter always made her a pleasure to be around.
An amazing wife, mother, neighbor and friend, Tempie joyfully remembered and celebrated birthdays, holidays, and special occasions with cards, notes, gifts and hugs. She was a member of White Plains United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where she enjoyed participating in services and especially the Pathfinders Sunday school class.
Her sweet, southern charm, along with her gentle spirit and pure heart make Tempie a treasured blessing to all who had the pleasure of her presence.
Though reunited with her beautiful beloved daughter, Jane, the smile on her face and twinkle in her eye will be dearly missed by many friends and family. Tempie is survived by her loving husband, Ben, several chosen children, and a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at Bethany United Methodist Church in Albemarle. In lieu of flowers please make donations to your favorite charity.
