Samuel Robert "Bob" Shi III

Bob was born February 18, 1938 in Macon, GA. He was a graduate of Frank L. Ashley High School in Gastonia, NC. Bob attended NC State University and was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He continued his education at the University of South Carolina where he received his master's degree in mathematics. Bob began his working career as a math teacher with Edmunds High School in Sumter, SC, before transitioning into a lifelong career with IBM as a computer programmer. He was a member of the NC Genealogical Society, Saint Francis United Methodist Church, and served as a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America. Bob was a devoted son, husband, father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Robert Shi, Jr.; and sister, Mary Ellen Shi Cain.

Bob is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia Hammet Shi; mother, Henrietta Searcy Shi of Cary; son, Samuel Robert Shi IV and his wife, Jennifer of Moncure; daughter, Melanie Gay Shi of Fuquay-Varina; sister, Henrietta Shi Hamilton of Ft. Pierce, FL; brother-in-law, John Cain and his wife, Jane of Matthews; 3 cherished grandchildren, Jacob Alexander Shi; Samuel Robert Shi V; and Caroline Estelle Shi; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Saint Francis United Methodist Church, 2965 Kildaire Farm Road, Cary, NC 27518. Burial will follow the service. The family will receive friends 12:00 – 2:00 pm prior to the service at the church.
