Born June 24th, 1950, in Homestead, PA, Robert was the son of Fred Scott and Kathryn (Mattern) Scott. Many of his friends and family fondly knew him as "Bob" or "Bobby". He received his secondary education from Thomas Jefferson schools before attending Penn State University to study business. He played rugby for Penn State when he did not make the football cut, and because he liked the danger of it. After obtaining his degree, he worked a desk job at Ford Motor Company just long enough to buy his Mustang and drive out to California in search of adventure. He bought his first apartment in Laguna Beach, and then discovered he could rent it out while he lived in a tiny apartment elsewhere, thus his fascination with real estate was born. His primary occupation was as a real estate broker, but he had also worked as a financial advisor and in mortgage lending services. Bob was the outgoing and adventurous type that thrived in the great outdoors. He enjoyed hiking, scuba diving, biking, sky-diving, surfing, and kayaking- anything he could do outside to soak up some sunshine.
In California, Bob not only found his love of real estate and the beach, but also of a young woman who became his wife, formerly Sheryl Snow. They married on a hilltop overlooking beautiful Lake Tahoe, CA, on August 3rd, 1980. They moved to New Wilmington, PA in the fall of 1988 to raise a family. As he matured and fathered two daughters, Bob's activity level slowed, but his enthusiasm never diminished. He was a people-person who loved sharing his stories with others, and seemed to obtain no greater joy than making someone laugh. He would get just as excited relaying his adventures as he had been experiencing them. Bob had the most incredible memory, recalling the full names of people he had not seen in decades, along with specific details that peppered his amazing stories. He seemed to have lived the life of a stuntman: getting hit by cars, jumping out of windows, bit by snakes, and regular hitchhiking trips cross-country. He was also an animal lover, a coin collector, and a music and cinema aficionado.
In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his daughters, Danica R. (Scott) Thomas and husband, Joseph, of Cary, NC, and Lisa C. Scott, of Menifee, CA; and a sister, Barbara K. Coryea and husband, Joseph, of New Wilmington, PA. He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
A memorial service will be held at Smith Funeral Home, 310 W. Neshannock Ave., New Wilmington, PA, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22nd, with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Pastor John Yergan, First Baptist Church of New Castle, will officiate. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery, Pleasant Hills, PA.
