"It is with great sadness that the Keating family announce the passing of Robert H. Keating. Mr. Keating, 86, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2013, in Cary, N.C. Born in New Jersey, Mr. Keating lived in several states while growing up to include Louisiana and Indiana.
Joining the United States Army at age 17, Mr. Keating was a decorated combat veteran of both WWII and The Korean War, receiving the Bronze Star medal and the Purple Heart for his actions in Korea. Mr. Keating attended the University of Indiana between wars, earning a BA degree in Political Science in 1950. After his discharge from the Army, Mr. Keating began a long career as an insurance executive with the Equitable Life Assurance company starting as a Salesman in New Jersey, later becoming an Agency and District Manager in Manhassett, Long Island, and finally retiring as a company Vice President in 1987 in New York City.
Mr. Keating moved to Cary, N.C. in 1988. He enjoyed working part time and traveling during his retirement years and visiting with his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean, and is survived by his 9 children, 19 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Keating was a true patriot, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed."
