Marjean Noftsger Fischer, 86, of Cary, N.C., passed away on September 19, 2017. Born in Wilmington, Ohio, on April 25, 1931, Marjean earned her bachelor’s degree at Wilmington College before receiving her master’s degree at Miami University. Marjean taught geography and Ohio History at Wilmington Junior High, twice being recognized as Teacher of the Year.
After retiring and moving to South Carolina, Marjean lent her time and talent to Tours Around Greenville South (TAGS), providing tours to school groups, visitors, and community organizations. An avid golfer and voracious reader, Marjean was also a devoted cat lover. Her beloved “boys” now reside with her daughter, Susan.
Mrs. Fischer is survived by two daughters, Terry (Ron) Grimes of Cary, N.C., and Susan (Joe) Zellers of Pittsboro, N.C.; three grandchildren, Erin (Nate) Mayabb of Holly Springs, N.C., Megan (Josh) Durfey of Holly Springs, N.C., and Austin (Jacy) Murphy-Park of Leonia, New Jersey, and five great grandchildren, Jack Mayabb, Harper Mayabb, Zane Mayabb, Bryce Durfey, and Cadence Murphy-Park.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Charles C. Fischer. A private inurnment will be held at Buncombe Street United Methodist Church, Greenville, S.C. at a date convenient to the family.
