He is survived by three sons, Paul Jr. of Summerfield, NC; Mark of Cary, NC and Clay of Raleigh, NC. Three Grand Children, Lindsay Jackson and her husband Brock of Morganton, NC; Jeff Callaway of Whitsett, NC and Reece Callaway of Blowing Rock, NC. Paul attended Duke prior to joining the Air Force and upon an honorable discharge attended Clemson University where he lettered in tennis and joined Phi Beta Kappa majoring in Electrical Engineering. He graduated in 1956, went to work for IBM and moved wife Nancy, Paul Jr. and Mark to Greenville, SC where they added Clay and lived until 1967, when a job change to Honeywell moved them to Greensboro, NC. Paul and wife Nancy moved to Cary in the late nineties and enjoyed many friends and neighbors.
His interests included assembling Liberty jig saw puzzles, Sudoku, the NY Times Crossword puzzles in his later years, but loved tennis and golf in his younger years memorialized with a trophy from the Titleist golf ball company for a hole-in-one at the Dunes Club in Myrtle Beach.
Per Paul’s wishes there will be no memorial service, so hug your family members, enjoy the fall and pray for Clemson. If compelled to make a memorial contribution, do so to a First Tee chapter that helps kids learn the wonderful sport of golf.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.BrownWynneCary.com for the Callaway family.
