Pat Harrison Bostic, 70, entered into her eternal reward on December 17, 2023. Born Martha Ann Harrison, the third of four children born to Ben and Ann Harrison of Greenville, NC, she soon acquired the nickname “Pat” and eventually made it official. Pat graduated from Rose High School in 1971 and East Carolina University in 1975 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Special Education. In 1979, she earned a Master’s Degree of Science in Education with a specialty of Special Education from the University of Virginia and later attended Denver Seminary. She worked with special needs children and their families before becoming a Christian counselor at Scope Ministries in Oklahoma City and Steamboat Springs, Colorado. She returned to North Carolina in 1993 to continue working with special needs children at Wright School in Durham and Wake County Schools’ Project Enlightenment. In 1995, she married Dino Ray “Dean” Bostic of Cary, NC and in 1998 they were blessed with a son, Daniel Ethan Bostic. The family has made their home in Cary since 1996.
Pat loved pets, hiking and being outdoors, and family vacations were often far off the beaten path in a little pop-up camper. She loved music and art and was wonderfully accepting of others’ differences. She had a passion for working with special needs children, some from the most difficult circumstances. Pat had the brightest encouraging spirit, challenging people around her to seek their very best, and supporting them as they did. She actively pursued a close relationship with Christ throughout her adult life and knew the great joy of His presence.
Her life was the epitome of service to others. She had the most remarkable ability to divine the joys, hurts, and anxieties of people around her and the grace, empathy and kindness to respond to those needs with wisdom and compassion. She always placed the needs of others before herself. The most common thing people said about her was that she was the nicest person they had ever known.
Pat is survived by her husband and son; brother Benjamin Harrison, Jr. of Greenville, NC, sister Penny Harrison Gaskins and her husband Harrison Gaskins of Greenville NC; and brother Nathaniel Harrison and his wife Peggy of Fairview, NC. Burial will be at 1:00 on Saturday, December 23 at East Duplin Memorial Gardens, 2192 E. NC 24, Beulaville NC.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on February 3 at Triangle Community Church, 4216 Kildaire Farm Road, Apex, NC. Following the service, those that knew her or her family are invited to a luncheon reception at the church. Family and friends are encouraged to come and share your stories of your time with this remarkable woman whose life touched so many others.
Kind expressions of sympathy or condolences may be left for the Bostic family below.
