Naomi Gilley-Bailey, 87 passed away the morning of March 10, 2014 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC. She had been a resident of Fayetteville, North Carolina since the late 1940’s before joining her daughters in Raleigh.
Mrs. Bailey was born in Statesville, NC to German F. Gilley and Ollie L. Bridges-Gilley in 1927. Mrs. Bailey was predeceased by her brother Sherman Isaac Gilley and her sister Juanita Gilley-Amos. Her early years were spent in Statesville and Kernersville, NC as well as Martinsville, VA. The young Naomi Gilley was accepted into the U.S. Cadet Nursing Corps (WWII) in 1943 graduating in 1947. In Fayetteville, she served many families as a private duty nurse until she became a nursing supervisor at Highsmith Rainey Memorial Hospital.
Surviving are her children, Naomi Leigh Morton of Apex, Alice Lynne Deese of Raleigh, Stephen Donald Bailey of Fayetteville, her grandchildren Adam and Ira Deese of Raleigh, Caitlyn Barker of Wytheville, VA, Ryan Bailey of Roanoke, VA and her great-grandchild, Robert Barker of Wytheville, VA and her niece, Judy M. Campbell of Martinsville, NC.
