Melinda Ayscue Smith

Melinda Ayscue Smith, 77, of Cary, passed away February 6, 2024. She was born in Henderson, NC on February 13, 1946 to the late Brooks and Marian Ayscue. After graduating from Henderson High School in 1964, she graduated from Elon College in 1968. Melinda worked as an educator and was a long time Sunday school teacher at First United Methodist Cary.

One of the great joys of her life was creating lifelong friends during many mission trips to Bosnia. She was a passionate Tar Heel fan. She was both a playmate and mentor to her four grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years Larry Smith, son Kyle Smith (Jenn), daughter Jomarie Zon (Michael), grandchildren (Caroline, Brooks, Layla, and Leo), her sister Marilyn Pridgen, and her nephews (Allan and Brian Daniel).

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024 at 12 Noon at the First United Methodist Church of Cary. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Peace Idea, a scholarship fund for Bosnian youth. www.thepeaceidea.org
