Marlyn was born in Burlington, NC to Josephine and Stokes Smith.
After moving to Cary in 1988, Marlyn served as the Ticket Manager at the NC State Student Aid Association (Wolfpack Club) for 7 years. Once her children were grown, Marlyn returned to NC State University to earn her BA degree in Business and Communications, and after working in the educational publishing industry for several years, she reached the pinnacle of her career in her current position with Curriculum Associates. She loved her work, her family, her friends, her dogs, and life in general, and lived it all to the fullest. She will be missed terribly by her family and everyone who knew her.
Marlyn was preceded in death by her mother, father and oldest brother, Mike, and her step father, Charlie V. Clapp all of Burlington.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Randy Smith, of the home; her son Jeff Smith (wife Amy), and her daughter, April Ellis, both of Apex, NC; brothers Jack Smith (wife Connie) of Greensboro, and Keevin Smith (wife Kathy) of Murrells Inlet, SC; and step brothers Richard Clapp (wife Linda) of Hilton Head, SC and Ed Clapp (wife Jane) of Charlotte, NC; and 3 loving grandchildren, Jake Ellis, and Preston Smith and Abbi Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm Monday, July 22, 2013 at Colonial Baptist Church, 6051 Tryon Road, Cary, NC 27518. The family will receive friends 6-8pm Sunday, July 21st at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511; and 12:30-1:30pm Monday prior to the service at the church.
Memorials in her honor may be made to the Wolfpack Club; Jimmy V Foundation; Kay Yow Foundation; Hospice of Wake County; Colonial Baptist Church; or to the charity of your choice.
