She was born on September 29, 1926, in Winston Salem, NC to the late Clyde and Kathleen Ragland. Her career was in the banking industry with Waccamaw Bank in Whiteville, NC and Wachovia Bank & Trust in Raleigh, NC. She was pivotal in establishing Cary Plumbing Company, a family owned business, and was employed there from 1990-2008. Joyce was a long-time member at the Raleigh Moravian Church serving as a teacher in the Sunday School program and quilting classes to the younger women. She enjoyed spending time with her family at home, in the mountains and at the coast.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Cecil James Cooke; and brother, William Ragland.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Kathy Wilson and husband David; sons, James Cooke and wife Beth, Thomas Cooke and wife Joanie; sister, Juanita Hemmig; granddaughters, Jennifer Dooly and husband Andrew; and Jennifer Fitzpatrick and husband Ford; and great granddaughters, Natalie Dooly; Evelyn, Stevie Ann and Vera Fitzpatrick.
Following internment at Oakwood cemetery, Joyce's memorial service will be on Thursday, May 10, 12:00 PM, at Raleigh Moravian Church, 1816 Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC 27607. A reception will follow the service at the church for friends and family.
