Jack was born on October 6, 1933 in Waterloo, NY to the late Edwin and Florence Essom. After Jack graduated from Waterloo High School in 1952, he joined the US Navy with an honorable discharge before starting his distinguished career with General Electric. He received his Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering and Master’s degree in Engineering Administration, both from Syracuse University.
Jack and his wife Sheila of 67 years lived and raised their three children, J. Timothy, Tracy and Tanya in Seneca Falls, NY. In 1987 they relocated to Cary, NC and he retired in 1996 enjoying his home at Woodlake in Vass (Southern Pines), NC. He loved playing golf daily, long dog walks and watching all his favorite NY sports teams. Jack was an avid sports enthusiast who was noted for his team-first approach in every sport which led to him being inducted into the Waterloo Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003.
The funeral will be Thursday, August 22 at 11am at the Brown-Wynne Funeral Home remembering Jack in the presence of close family.
In addition to his parents, Jack is predeceased by his brother Donald Essom, sisters Bernice Dutcher, Gladys Smith and Hazel Secor.
Jack is survived by his wife Sheila, son J. Timothy Essom of Lansdale, PA, daughter Tracy (Jim) Moreland of Winder, GA, daughter Tanya (Charles) Durand of Raleigh, NC, four grandchildren Julie, Jim, Ashley and Angela and two great grandchildren Camden and Maddox.
