On Saturday, October 8th, 2022, beloved husband and father, Fred Langenbach passed away at the age of 83. Fred was born in Mexico, MO in 1939 to Opal and Dutch Langenbach. The family moved to Springfield, Illinois during his early childhood. Fred later graduated from Bradley University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He entered the Air Force in 1962 and was stationed in Sumter, SC. It was in South Carolina that he met his wife Sandra, and they were married in 1965. After serving in Thailand for a year during the Vietnam War, Fred and Sandra began their life together. They moved to Lexington, KY and a few years later to Cary, NC where they raised three children.
Fred loved to be with his family above all other things. He was actively involved with YMCA Indian Guides and Princesses and left his kids with many fantastic memories of their trips to Camp Seagull (especially looking for shark’s teeth and going on muddy jeep rides). He loved to play bridge, tennis, and golf with his wife Sandra. He loved the beach and the mountains and was happiest outdoors. He was known for his ability to fix anything around the house, and you could find him working on a new project or landscaping idea on any given Saturday. Most of all, Fred was a friend that you could count on and cared deeply about his friends and loved ones. He was the quiet one who got things done, behind the scenes, never complaining.
Fred is survived by his wife Sandra Langenbach, sons Mark and Hal Langenbach, daughter Paige Jennings, daughter-in-laws Laura D and Laura G Langenbach, son-in-law Vance Jennings, and 6 grandchildren Margot and Max Langenbach, Jacob and Ashley Langenbach, and Caroline and Matthew Gausmann.
A memorial service will be held from 11 am to 1 pm on Saturday November 12, 2022 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 Southeast Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Church of the Resurrection, PO Box 1154, Fuquay Varina, NC 27526. Please designate any gifts to the Rev. Bill Steinberg’s Discretionary Fund.
