Born in Elkhart, KS he was the son of the late Clarence and Vesta Turner. He retired from IBM as a computer programmer. Gary was involved with the Special Olympics, Mile of Hope Children's Cancer Organization, and was the assistant security manager at the PNC Arena. He was an avid photographer and a member of the Optimist International Club since 2000.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Carol Turner; sister-in-law, Laura Wilson and her husband, Rod of Montana; nephew, Troy Wilson and his wife, Beth and their daughter Tessa of Montana; niece, Tami Haman and her husband, Nick and their daughters Jessie and Paige of North Dakota; nephew, Curt Henley and his wife, Ailsa of Nevada; niece, Debbie Gatlin and her husband, Bob and their sons, Zack and Spencer of Missouri.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, August 13, 2018 at the PNC Arena Club Restaurant, 1400 Edwards Mill Road, Raleigh, NC 27607.
