Elizabeth “Betty” Gaertner, 88, passed away in her home surrounded by her children and grandchildren, August 15, 2021. She was born on June 13, 1933 in Sioux City, IA to Percy Gulbronson and Mary Skaff Gulbronson.
Betty graduated from Central High School in Sioux City, IA in 1951. She worked for JC Penney, Western Bell as a Switchboard Operator, and for AT&T as an Operator. She enjoyed gardening, classic television shows such as I Love Lucy, The Honey Mooners, and Andy Griffith. Betty enjoyed dancing to music such as Big Band, Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby, Andrew Sisters and many more. Every part of her life she seemed to document through many pictures. She was a collector of many things. She found sentimental value in every picture given to her. She loved going to Church but more than anything she loved being surrounded by her grandchildren making bead necklaces, teaching them to crochet, and peeling grapefruit for them. She will be greatly missed.
Betty is survived by her 9 children, Kurt Wendell Gaertner of Potter, NE (wife Patricia) Jerome George Gaertner of Durham, NC, Gregory Allan Gaertner of Matthews, NC (wife Kendy), Kerri JoAnn Ayscue of Zebulon, NC, Stephen Andrew Gaertner of Apex, NC (wife Lorena), Norma Sue Bolton of Cary, NC, Cecilia Maureen Bolton of Cary, NC, David Joseph Gaertner of Matthews, NC (wife Gretchen), and Brian Anthony Gaertner of Raleigh, NC (wife Augusta). She had 21 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She is survived by three sisters, Delores Gulbronson Sioux City, IA, Linda Weston Sioux City, IA, JoAnn Meyer of Minneapolis, MN, brother George Gulbronson of Sioux City, IA (wife Laura), and Sister in Law Carol Gulbronson of Sioux City, IA. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin J. Gaertner, parents Percy and Mary Gulbronson, brothers Everett Gulbronson, Joseph Gulbronson, and sister Carrie Gulbronson.
A visitation for Betty will be held Friday, August 27, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 Southeast Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511. Funeral mass will occur Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 10:30 AM at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 804 High House Road, Cary, NC 27513.
