Elizabeth Maschil Childers

Elizabeth Maschil Childers, age 59, of Cary, NC, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024. Elizabeth Childers was born Elizabeth Maschil Zlab on December 5, 1964 to Joseph Kenton and Eva Darlene Zlab in Pasadena, California. She had two brothers, Kenton Zlab and Joseph Zlab. She was raised in a devout Christian home. She attended Imperial Schools in Pasadena, and then Ambassador College in Big Sandy, Texas, where she achieved an Associate of Arts degree. She also took fine arts courses at the University of California.

On December 18, 1988 Elizabeth married Gary Childers, son of Carl Louis and Alene Vivian Childers of Goldsboro, North Carolina. Elizabeth bore two children, Carl Joseph Childers and Vivian Michelle Childers, while living in Pasadena.

In 1996, the Childers family moved from Pasadena, California, to Cary, North Carolina, and bought a home here. She attended Grace Communion Cary church in Cary.

During her married life, Elizabeth was a homemaker, devoted to her family, her church, her friends, and to the study of the Bible. She even went so far as to study first-century Greek, in order to better understand the New Testament in its original language. She also attended Bible Study Fellowship in Cary.

Elizabeth played the piano, and regularly accompanied church worship services.

Elizabeth made many of her own clothes, as an accomplished seamstress, and made quilts and many other household items. She loved to cook and to garden, and to read books of all kinds. She loved classical music, and many classic movies.

Everyone who met Elizabeth was charmed by her ready smile, and her meek and friendly spirit. She was an active listener, whom people loved to engage in conversation. She was very compassionate to the needs of others.

In March 2024, Elizabeth was diagnosed with cancer, and subsequently began a regimen of chemotherapy. She continued to decline in health, until she suddenly died on June 2, 2024, due to cardiac arrest, precipitated by a blood clot.

She is preceded in death by her own parents, Joseph Kenton and Eva Darlene Zlab. She is survived by her husband, Gary Childers, and her children, Carl Joseph Childers and Vivian Michelle Childers, as well as her two brothers, Kenton Zlab and Joseph Zlab.

All of her family, and everyone who knew Elizabeth, will greatly miss her presence. In her honor a Celebration of Life will be held on June 9, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Rd, Cary, NC 27511.
