Douglas Lee Spitz, age 76, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 19 after a long battle with cancer. He is predeceased by his parents, Dorothy and Ed Spitz. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Cheri Spitz, and his three children: Jeffrey Spitz of Charlotte, NC (wife Kimberly and children Mason, Jacob and Bennett), Jennifer Milder of Arlington, VA (husband Ben and children Juliet and Caroline), and Laura Spencer of Falls Church, VA (husband Kevin and children Kathryn and Alexander). He also leaves behind his brother, Larry Spitz (wife Patricia), and many nieces and nephews.
Doug Spitz was born on October 6, 1946 in Delavan, Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he met his beloved wife, Cheri. Following graduation, Doug enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Vietnam War. While stationed in New Mexico, Doug and Cheri had two children, Jeffrey and Jennifer. There they built their Raleigh home in which they would live for the next 45 years. Doug welcomed his third child, Laura, in 1981.
Doug worked for Time Distribution Services several decades followed by Wells Fargo until his well-deserved retirement. He often volunteered at Resurrection Lutheran Preschool where his wife, Cheri, was director for 30 years. Doug was also the loving grandfather to seven grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.
Doug will be mourned by his many friends and family and remembered for his humor and loyalty.
