Doris Anne Kawas

On Monday, December 12th 2022, Doris Anne Kawas (nee Bullock), loving wife and mother of three, passed peacefully at home surrounded by family at age 59. Born on July 23rd 1963, the sixth of seven children to William and Doris Bullock of Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn, Doris attended Holy Name Catholic School and Our Lady of Perpetual Help High School.

After growing up in the same neighborhood, Doris began dating Thomas Kawas in 1986 and they wed on May 18th, 1991. Doris and Tom moved from Brooklyn to Cary, North Carolina where they were active members of St. Michael the Archangel church, involved with the community, and made many lifelong friends.

Doris was best known for her infectious laugh, excellent crafting skills, and giving heart. She loved going for long walks or runs, and gardening. She worked at Preston Children’s Academy and Thales Academy where she was beloved by the children and staff, and loved going to work every day.

Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Thomas; son Thomas Jr.; son Brian; daughter Brooke; step-daughter Denise Kawas of Farmingdale, NY; mother Doris Savold of Ft. Pierce, FL; sister Susan Heffernan of Westfield, NJ; brother James Bullock of Arlington, MA; brother Christopher Bullock of Falls Church, VA; brother Matthew Bullock of Chester, NY; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father William Bullock Jr., sister Karen Pedini, and brother William (Billy) Bullock III.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, December 20, 2022 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at Brown Wynne Funeral Home (200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511). A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church (804 High House Road, Cary, NC 27513).

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions to Tunnel to Towers Foundation in memory of Doris (hyperlink can be found below).
