Dawn was born on April 2, 1936, to Raymond and Hattie Zwicker in Lebanon Hospital, Bronx, New York.
She was also raised by several family members, including her maternal aunt, Aunt Lilian (Jack), Aunt Marie, and Aunt Rosie, and her paternal grandmother, “Little Ma.” Dawn spoke fondly about the years she spent growing up with her cousins, who were Aunt Jack’s children.
Dawn was married to Ronald (Ronnie) Hellwinkel for 27 years. They had three daughters, Donna, Kim, and Lorelei, and raised them on City Island, NY. Dawn and Ronnie later divorced, and Dawn began a life with Richard (Rick) Dunn. During their retirement, they lived in Florida and enjoyed frequent trips visiting children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and chasing the aloha in Hawaii.
Dawn is survived by her children, Donna, Kim, and Lorelei; her grandchildren, Stephan II, Candace, Meghan, Shannon, and Elizabeth (Liz); and great-grandchildren: Stephan Michael III (Mikey), Sydney, Xavier, Skylar, Sophia, George, Peter, Chloe, Theodore, Evelyn, and Damien.
A visitation for Dawn will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Brown Wynne of Cary, 200 Southeast Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511. A funeral ~ Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 11:00 am at First Cary United Methodist Church, 117 S Academy St, Cary, NC 2751, followed by a private burial service at Raleigh Memorial Park.
