Darren was born on May 7th, 1985, in Ware, MA, to Richard Abbott and Sheryl Ann Robidoux Cates. Spending much of his childhood in Swansboro, NC, Darren graduated from Swansboro High School and went on to attend NC State University where he would meet the love of his life. When he wasn't cheering on the Wolfpack or his beloved Red Sox, Darren was fulfilling his love of music at concerts or more recently, through dance parties with his two beautiful children.
Darren was preceded in death by his father, Richard Abbott Cates, and his grandparents, Karl Abbott Cates, and Norma Shorey Cates.
Darren is survived by his wife, Lindsey Joann Cates; daughter Harper Victoria Cates; son Landon Abbott Cates; his mother, Sheryl Cates; his brother Ryan Anderson; a father-in-law, Joe Honeycutt, a mother-in-law, Tammy Honeycutt; four brothers-in-law, Marshall (Tammie), Stephen, Dylan, and Bryan (Natalee) Honeycutt; as well as several loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He leaves behind many amazing friends and a best friend, Daniel Robb.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 16th, 2016, at 2:00 pm, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SPCA of Wake County or SouthLight Healthcare.
