Betty Ann Howe Kluttz died on Friday, September 29, 2023.
Born in Wilmington, NC, September 13, 1930, she was the daughter of Noah Edward Howe and Anna Mohr Howe. She graduated from Broughton High School, Raleigh, and the University of NC at Greensboro. Betty married James William Kluttz on January 24, 1953 in Raleigh, and they lived in Greensboro, NC, Landis, NC, and in 1996 moved to Cary, NC.
From 1976 to her retirement in 1992, she was employed by the Merchants and Farmers Bank in Landis, NC that later merged with First Charter National Bank, Concord, NC. During her banking career she served as Assistant Secretary, Assistant Vice President in Accounting, and Vice President and Internal Auditor.
She was a past president of the Landis Women’s Club, and Vice Regent, Treasurer, and Chaplain of the Asbury Station Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution who honored her as their Woman of the Year in 2012. Betty was a member of Cary Presbyterian Church where she served on the Chancel Guild and as a Circle Chairperson, assisting in the establishment of the Anna Circle at the Glenaire Retirement Center. Her interest in genealogy led her to be a very active volunteer for several local genealogical societies. In recent years she volunteered her help with family research to friends and neighbors.
She is survived by her husband, James Kluttz; daughter Helen Smith and husband, Scott Smith; granddaughter Teresa Porter and husband, Justin Porter; grandson Phillip Smith and wife Gina Smith; great-grandchildren Cecelia Porter and Mason Smith.
Graveside Services will be held privately at Raleigh Memorial Park.
