Annette was born April 10, 1939, raised in Federalsburg, MD, and daughter of the late George David Carels and Eva Pauline Goswellen. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Allen Smith; sons, Allen David Anderson, and Frank (Andy) Marvin Anderson, III; and brother, Robert Kenneth Carels.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Anderson Blair and husband, Eddie; grandchildren, Brittany Brearley and husband Matt, James “Andy” Blair, and Nicole, Kirsten, and Allison Anderson; great grandchildren, Joie Anderson, Marilyn and Hudson Brearley; brother Wayne Carels and wife Sharon; nephews Rob Carels, Randy Carels, Troy Carels and Mark Carels; niece, Melissa Kelly; and cousins, Scott Gildow, and Donna Goswellen Gosden.
Annette was a beautiful, gregarious woman who enjoyed dancing, playing pool, singing, playing piano, and modeling. She was so proud to have won the title of Miss Federalsburg in her teens, and in 1979 was chosen as runner up in the Mrs. Virginia pageant. She graduated Federalsburg HS in 1957, married Frank “Snubby” Anderson, and later traveled the US for many years with their three children, creating many memories and lifelong friendships. Annette later married Thomas Smith and resided in Virginia, and during that time she worked for the Southland Corporation, and eventually achieved her LPN license. Following her husband’s death, she relocated to NC to be close to her daughter and family, where she resided for over 10 years.
Annette will be remembered by many and will be greatly missed; we find great comfort that she is now reunited with her two sons, Allen and Andy.
A celebration of life will be arranged in Maryland and announced at a later date as details and schedules are confirmed.
