Andrew (Andy) Jackson Vinson III, 88, died peacefully early morning, Oct. 20th, at home after a courageous battle with an extended illness. He is succeeded by his wife of 66 years, Eleanor Coulbourn Vinson, four children, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The Vinson's have lived in Cary since 1964.
A native of Roxobel in Bertie County, North Carolina, Andy was the son of LeClaire Jacobs Vinson and Andrew J. Vinson Jr. He graduated from Roxobel-Kelford High School and afterward attended Wake Forest University from 1951-53. He then put his education on hold to serve in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1957. Andy married his high school sweetheart, Eleanor Coulbourn, in 1955 and they started their family in Anchorage, Alaska before moving home to Windsor, NC. During their years in Alaska he was stationed at Elmendorf AFB and served as a shift supervisor in the Control Tower reaching a rank of Staff Sargent. He went on to complete his education while working as assistant manager of Coulbourn Building Supply Company and helping raise their growing family while obtaining a degree in business administration from East Carolina University in 1960.
After completing his education he moved to a position in sales with the Burroughs Corp. selling accounting machines and systems. He then took a position with AM International (Raleigh) and then sold addressing machines, hospital scanning systems, scheduling systems and later imprinting and credit card systems. He retired from CRS in 1996 following their purchase of AM International. During his career in sales, he won numerous honors for sales achievements.
Andy was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cary. A funeral service will be held at the church conducted by Reverend William Green and Reverend Rick Wilkerson. Inurnment will follow at the church’s Columbarium.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor, and his children: Robert Andrew Vinson (wife, Krista Geosits Vinson, their son Mark and daughter, Renee Miller); William Fenton Vinson (wife, Sharon Surrett Vinson, their son Daniel Vinson, and his daughter Kira); Katherine “Kathy” LeClaire Vinson Wilder (husband Steve, and their sons Jordan and Rob; Martha Anne Vinson Kemp (husband Rick and their daughter Emma).
The family would like to extend their gratitude for the care that Andy received from Yvonne Richards, David Cater and Malik Murrill, CNA’s with the Affordable Family Care Services. Also they would like to recognize the care provided by EunKyoung KO (Ekko).
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Cary in memory of Andrew (Andy).
Arrangements are being handled by the Brown-Wynn Funeral Home of Cary.
