Nelson Kimball Rogers, 85, of Cartersville, GA died on September 15, 2013. He was born on May 17, 1928 in Flushing, New York, the son of Lewis Edward Rogers and Marion Nelson Rogers, both formerly of Cartersville. He was a graduate of Cartersville High School, the United States Naval Academy, and the Georgia Institute of Technology. He was a veteran of the Korean War. During his early career he was vice president of operations for the Sea-Land Corporation, where he was instrumental in building the industry’s first container ships. He was a Professor Emeritus at Georgia Tech, where he taught for many years and served as director of the undergraduate program for the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering. He also enjoyed the opportunity for world travel as a consultant for the Coca-Cola Company.
Professor Rogers is survived by his wife Marian Morris Rogers of Cartersville; son Edward Morris Rogers (Jeanette) of Roswell, GA; daughter Kimball Amanda Rogers (LaVon Napier) of Nashville, TN; son James Madison Rogers of Cartersville; granddaughter Kyla Louise Rogers of Atlanta, GA; grandson Matlock Nelson Rogers of St. Louis, MO; granddaughter Kirby Lee Rogers of Nashville, TN; brother Madison Leete “Pete” Rogers (Sally) of Cartersville; and nephew Lewis Charles Rogers (Lusiya) of Shanghai, China.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 11am at Owen Funeral Home Chapel in Cartersville with Rev. Kevin Lobello and Rev. Nena Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cartersville. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 from 6 to 8pm at Owen Funeral Home.
